EFRA GP - England
Friday some good set-up was searched for the challenging track at the Notts & Derby Raceway. Soon the guys showed fast times on the chronometer.
Saturday we saw the same. Ken made pole being 40 seconds(!) faster in qualification than nr 2 Hannes Kaufler. This boded well for the finals on Sunday.
All Elcon drivers were directly placed for the 1/2 finals. With Ken we discussed to take it easy, the task was to secure a place in the main final. The other guys did the same, 4 out of 4 Elcon prototype cars made their way to the main final among the best European drivers.
Ken started 3rd on the grid being behind Hannes. Immediately he putted the pressure on being all the time in a 1 meter distance of Hannes. This forced Hannes to really drive at the edge what was possible for him and his car. After a few small mistakes it went wrong for Hannes at the big table top. Hannes pushed too much and broke the pin of his front hub as he could not control his landing.
Ken now had a free way and moved up quickly chasing the leader Stuart Carrick. This former Elcon driver now had to give all he could. He beated the car as hard as possible and within 2 laps his drive shaft gave up. Ken now leaded and was from here on more or less cruising his way to the finish. His second win in a row on a big international event with the new Elcon car Cleon is a fact.
Powered with the PaSe tuned engine he proved again this is a winning combination.
Curt had a troublesome shocker and went down the rostrum half way the race. Meanwhile Renze Brink had moved up to 2nd place and passed Rene Kuipers. An excellent result for Renze in his first international race!
Andreas was after a bad start moving up quickly. He was about to take over Rene Kuipers halfway the race. He however jumped his car wrong on the table top crashing on the rail of the bridge. this broke the balljoint of the shocker. The ball joint was quickly repaired and he raced his way to 6th spot.
Guys you all did a tremendous job, an excellent result as a team: 1st - 2nd - 6th - 8th
A special thanks goes out to the organising crew at the Notts & Derby race track for putting together a fantastic track and superbly held race meeting.
See you next year!
