Renze rocks on !!!
After the 2nd place in the UK Renze had a dream and decided to live it. |
After qualification we saw 5 Cleon cars in the top 10. FTD was for Ken Walckiers. Tim Vander Elst the new member showed his talent in his second race putting a tremendous 7th position.
All 6 Cleon cars were directly qualified into the sub finals.
We only could dream of this.
The first subfinal went well. Ken took an easy win and Johnny went through as well.
In the other sub final 4 Cleons had to battle for the first 5 places.
Andreas Kamp somehow suffered a loose lid of his fuel tank and was empty after 15 minutes. Tim being very fast and even leading this subfinal suffered an unwilling steering servo. In the end he could not steer anymore and was out by just a few seconds.
Tim you showed what is possible, your time will come, don't worry.
With 4 Cleons on the grid for the main final expectations were high. Ken started from pole followed by Renze in 2nd spot. Johnny was in the midfield and so was Curt.
An excellent start of the race was made; within a few rounds there was a gap between the 2 leading Cleons and the rest of the field. This provided some rest for the pit crew but not for long.
Johnny Lantman was moving up and about to take 3rd place when the devil showed up. His wheel square came loose. After repair he continued but his race for victory ended here.
Ken also witnessed bad luck. His valve jammed in his air tube and made the fuel boil and engine run hot. His engine was retuned twice as the problem was not discovered during the race. He ran therefor out of fuel after 20 minutes.
Curt Sonneville was going easy but steady and moved up through the field like a sniper. After 10 minutes he was in 3rd place and kept this position without any trouble.
"Make way for the leader Renze Brink" was shouted often through the speakers. After some fast 1st part of the final Renze settled down on the race pace and started cruisin' to avoid any mistakes. Completely controlled he went over the finish after 30 minutes and came down from the rostrum with a smile from ear to ear.
The Dutch success is complete.
A Dutch pilot taking 1st place with a Dutch product. Goose pimples when the national anthem was heard.
Triple victory in a row in the international races; after the Powercup, Nots & Derby it is now Salou.
Thanks everyone involved for making it happen, you're all part of this huge success!
