Podium Powercup 2009

On a mission for a double podium!
After a back-to-back victory for Elcon in 2007 and 2008, one of the most prestigious races was waiting for us again. Well prepared the Elcon team appeared on the crime scene and after a few swift laps in the main final victory at the Powercup was secured.
This is the 3rd in a row victory, hurray guys !

Ken wrote history winning the 2009 edition using a Evo tuned engine, he is the first pilot winning this race twice.
Also his new track record is fixed for eternity as sadly enough BPT has to move its track elsewhere.

Friday and saturday it was all smiles again with about 3/4 of the elcon team being complete. We saw a joyfull free training and a more or relaxed qualifikation as well. The fresh daddy Elivennos was back on track but probably having his head still set on changing dipers. But we all know some practice in the future will help Truc to get along. Stevo made the effort to the mainland and was more busy calming his nerves on the rostrum. Tim was puzzled by the lack of grip on his home track. Thought he did not run well but was placed 2nd after qualification. Albert was steady as always and going round just fine. Jeroen, Kampy and Ken were as usual not to pleased but saw possibilities to improve and so happened.

In the 1/4th Stevo went through easily. So did Albert. The other bunch could enjoy a free morning program and was directly placed for the half finals.
In the semi a very easy win for Ken, and a great race from Stevo also making the cut to the main final. Kampy getting a day older starts slowly but somehow knows how to sneak through. Last years winner Vander Tim showed his potential by running just 19 minutes and still winning his semi final.

4 Cleons in the main final, we had hoped for one more but this could do as well. After the start in the first round some small crash and Tim was involved. Damage was seen, we knew this ment already end of story for him as at the level nowadays a small mechanic failure is enough to kill the result.
Ken meanwhile had put a pace on the track from the very start that was way too fast for everybody to follow. Some old tactics were used, make sure to be first at the corner and do not look back. After 2/3rd of the race he decided it was enough of a demonstration.
Trackrecord broken and wth 2 laps ahead of nr 2 and having 5(!) laps ahead of nr 4 he used his brains. Slowed down the race pace, drove the car home and took a very convincing win.
His new Evo engine tuned by Stevo did a tremendous job. Very smooth powerband over the whole range and very smart on fuel consumption. Almost 1/3rd of the tank remained after 30 minutes, considering it was a very hot weekend we were very happy to see this.

Bademeister Kampy is fighting his way up the last months and saw his effort being rewarded with an excellent 3rd place. 2 Cleons on the podium in this strong field of competitors is a dream result.
Stevo did more then one could expect. His first international race abroad was a great succes for him and us as a team with his 6th position.
Well done guys!

Thanks BPT, see you next year on the new track.
Salutekes!
